Pas
de la Casa - 1998 |
My
second holiday. Pas de la Casa is in Andorra, which is situated
between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains. We went over
the christmas period. It was weird waking up on christmas morning
and everyone just went sking/snowboarding like any other day.
It felt like christmas just didn't exist. We were there too early
in the season. Not enough snow for the fun park to be built, rocks
poking through on the lower slopes (my mate badly dinked his edge
rail). Plus the terrain in Andorra is very tame, hardly any cliffs
to drop off. We did find a bowl with untracked powder in it. It
was a week old and the powder had a thin crust on top, so riding
accross it felt like you were an icebreaker ship. You'd rise up
and when your weight got too much for the crust you'd suddenly
drop as it broke. I caught a hidden rock and got catapulted head
first into the snow. My head acted as a pivot as my body and board
carried on over the top. My head then got wrenched out of the
snow, leaving my goggles and beanie embedded in the snow. Funny
thing is because i was travelling at a fair speed when it happened
i got whiplash injuries. Didn't know till the next day though
when it felt like i'd broken my neck! We had fun and i got a bit
of video but its just too tame compared with the alps. I wouldn't
go to Andorra again. |
